Conclusion on medical test results of the "Biofon" Apparatus for IR-therapy (urogenital) developed at state Enterprise Izhevsky Medical Plant", recommended for use by Committee on Modern Medical Technologies under Ministry of Health, Russian Federation (Protocol No 4 of 10.10.1997)

The "Biofon" Apparatus was used at the 3rd Urological Department of Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 50, a base unit for Department of Urology of the Medical Institute (MMSI), for treatment of chronical chlamydia urethritis and urethroprostatitis in the period of time from 1.11.97 up to 2.04.98.

The "Biofon" Apparatus for IR-Therapy (urogenital) is designed for physiotherapy of urethroprostatitis of chlamydia etiology.

Principle of operation is based on the change of electrostatic potential on cellular membranes of microorganisms such as chlamydia, diminishing the quantity of toxines and metabolic products, which facilitates their inactivation by immune system and their elimination from the organism.

Direct bacteriostatic effect on chlamydia has also been revealed.

The apparatus contains IR-radiation source with the length between 0.8-30 Ојm and radiation from 0.1 to 1 mW.

The apparatus was tested in hospitals and out-patient units on 31 patients at the age of 23-54 years, suffering from chronical chlamydia urethritis (9 patients) and urethrostatitis (22 patients).

An experimental group consisted of 31 patients, suffering from chronical chlamydia urethritis and urethroprostatitis.

For diagnosis and treatment efficiency evaluation the following tests were used:

  1. General urine analysis
  2. Nechiporenko urine test, Portions I and II
  3. Microscopy of urethra discharge
  4. Microscopy of prostatic secretion
  5. Spermal plasma analysis
  6. Ultrasonic investigation
  7. Urofluorometry
  8. Urethroscopy
  9. Chlamydia detection by IFA (DIF)
  10. Serologic chlamydia detection (RSK)

Treatment of basic group of the patients in addition to antibiotics, physiotherapy and antiinflammatory remedies included "Biofon" apparatus application. In the first month 7 procedures were conducted (on the 1, 2, 4, 8, 11, 15, 22 days) in the second month - 4 procedures. In the course of the procedure a patient was in the sitting or lying position with the apparatus at a distance of 5-10 cm from the skin in the perineum region, the procedure duration was 24s.

Control examinations were performed 1 and 2 months after the beginning of the treatment. It is remarkable that they appeared to be identical.

Elimination of chlamydia from the organism occurred in 28 cases from 31 in the basic group of patients under treatment and in 25 cases from 31 in the control group. The majority of patients from both groups noted decrease in pains and disury, prostata palpation data and laboratory, ultrasonic and urodynamic test results were normalized or improved.

No local general negative side-effects caused by the "Biofon" Apparatus were revealed.

Comparison of treatment efficiency in basic and control groups revealed better antichlamydia effect for the group that under-went "Biofon" treatment.

Thus, the "Biofon" Apparatus has obvious antichlamydia effect, intensifying antibacterial treatment.

The apparatus is safe, of a user friendly design, convenient, reliable, and easily disinfected.

One of the advantages of the Apparatus is the ability to be used by patients themselves in the out-patient environment.

No Obvious contraindications have been stated so far "Biofon" Apparatus effect should be regarded as an auxillary means, increasing the efficiency of treatment of urogenital chlamydiosis with antibiotics.

The "Biofon" Apparatus is considered to be useful in general medical practice for treatment of chronical urethritis and prostatitis of chlamydia etiology.
