Rubella is an acute infectious disease. The rubella virus fall in the category of togaviruses (familia Togaviridae, genus Rubivirus). Man is the only host.

The disease is spread by droplet inhalation.

Rubella virus enters the system trough the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract and circulates in the body with the bloodstream. In pregnant women rubella virus infects the fetus which leads to retardation of its growth and congenital deformities. After the disease a persistent live immunity develops. Rubella treatment.

Rubella symptoms.

Incubation period is 11-24 days. The disease starts acutely. Enlarged and tender lymph nodes on the back of the head and neck, mild weakness, malaise, moderate headache, temperature may rise to 38° C. Exanthem in form of round or oval 1cm pink, maculopapular eruption begins on the face, spreads rapidly downward, over the trunk and extremities, often within hours. Other symptoms may include moderate nonproductive cough, scratchy feeling in the throat, slight rhinitis. The temperature and the rash remain present for 1-3 days, enlargement of the lymph nodes lasts a few days longer.

Manifestation of rubella in just slight temperature and enlarged lymph nodes without eruptions is not infrequent.
